Terms and Conditions
For all Submissions
By submitting to and accepting an offer of publication with us, it's assumed you have both read and agreed to the following terms. These terms may change from time to time, so please review each time you submit to us.
By submitting to us you agree:
1 – We may use the submitted content you provide (if we so choose) for publication in The Belfast Review, our magazine, both online or in print, or our blog, as specified in our offer of publication.
1a. Additionally, we may use excerpts or portions of that content to market and promote as we see fit on our website, blog, and social media channels. “Content” may include text, images, video, movies, photographs, artist statements, author bios, or any other content you provide for publication.
1b. For those who have used our editorial services or developed their work under supervision of the Editor, 'submitted content' refers only to the final version accepted by the Editor for publication, and not to earlier versions or drafts.
2 – You grant us first world serial and electronic publication rights (if not previously published), or reprint rights, as applies.
2a. If the content is previously published, you agree that you retain all rights and will provide details so that we may credit the original publication.
3 – Upon publication with The Belfast Review, all rights to your work revert to you.
4 – You agree that you are the sole, original creator of the content provided to us and that you have not infringed on the copyright, content, characters, settings, or trade marks of a third party (unless it is legally recognised as within the public domain).
4a. You acknowledge and agree that you have not plagiarised or otherwise generated and/or enhanced the content using any AI-programmes, which by definition make use of and incorporate the copyrighted works of other creators.
5 – You agree and acknowledge that we will not pay you a fee for the content that you submit to us for publication in The Belfast Review.
6 - You acknowledge and agree that we have the right to suggest and require editorial changes as needed to any submitted content accepted for publication to ensure the professional standard of our publication (including, but not limited to, correction of typographical errors, grammar, phrasing, change of font, layout, shortening of video content, or cropping of images).
6a. You will be provided with final proofs to approve changes made.
6b. Generally this section applies to prose and scripts. Poetry and song lyrics are either accepted “as is” or editorial changes are requested prior to an offer of acceptance.
7 – We have the right to remove any content from publication (including from our websites, publications, social media, or marketing or promotional works) that is found to violate our terms or submission guidelines; for example, copyright infringement, or hateful speech.
8 – We agree to never knowingly submit any content that you provide for the use of AI-training programmes.
9 – If our editors wish to nominate your piece for prizes such as Pushcart, Best of the Net, or similar competitions, you acknowledge that there will be new terms and conditions of publication required by those organisations that are not covered in this agreement.
